During a time when things were “tight”, yet having a yearning to create, this piece emerged out of scraps and a renewed interest in painting. The artist had begun to shed the worry of pleasing others with art. Simply because color was realized as “good”, despite being color-blind, the artist decided to use any color which pleased him with this “red” fish. You can imagine the reaction of some of his fellow left brain fishing folks who well know that a redfish in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico doesn't actually have the colors in the painting. This deviation from more “realistic” colors helped open the possibility of breaking the “rules” with painting. Two of the colors that are most often unable to be differentiated by color-blind people are red and green. The artist’s children cringe when approaching red lights in the family van. |
