Fallowed Field22x28 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas with Image Wrap Border |
||||
Usually, we think of a plowed field as comprised of straight lines. However, as is most often the case, the land is naturally contoured. The field depicted in the painting in a stretch between Houma and Thibodaux, Louisiana shows a fallowed/harvested field, where the sun-bleached cane reeds sit atop the steep rows used to grow cane. It is said that the farmer looks far in the distance in order to keep the rows straight. If the farmer were to keep his head down, while forming the rows, he could never adequately create straight lines. This natural truth also applies to our lives. We all function better when we keep our eyes on our goal instead of concentrating on the limitations of the day. |
